Know Why You're There

"Then the LORD God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to
cultivate it and keep it." - Genesis 2:15

God often sends His people into hostile environments to be salt and
light. Salt heals and preserves. Light brings clarity in the midst
of darkness. If you're one that has recently received such an
assignment, know that it is an honor. Unfortunately, it is sometimes
difficult for us to see it from God's point-of-view.

God knows that if we become too comfortable in any situation we tend
to lounge there too long basking in peace and non-confrontational
bliss, missing the blessings that come through focus, fulfilled
purpose and warfare. That's right! I said warfare! The image of a
soldier seems too hard for us; "Suffer hardship with me, as a good
soldier of Christ Jesus." (2 Timothy 2:3) We have been called to go
into hostile situations, take the territory and demonstrate to others
what it's like to live under the Lordship of Jesus. We get caught up
so easily in mundane things like difficult bosses, office politics,
water cooler gossip, unfair treatment and fail to see our God-given
reason for being there.

Has it occurred to you that you could be the only Christian somebody
in your workplace knows? Or better yet, the first one to make Christ
look good and His message attractive? Someone's eternal destiny could
be riding on your testimony and lifestyle. They may not be interested
in what you have to say at the moment, but death, divorce, sickness or
adversity can change all that in a heartbeat. That's when the world
goes looking for the boys they threw into the fiery furnace and into
the lions' den. So, ". . . whatever you do, do all to the glory of
God." (1 Corinthians 10:31)
