Got Peace?

"Peace I leave with you . . . " - John 14:27 (NASB)

Some children at summer holiday camp were discussing creation. One asked, "If everything has a purpose, how come God made poison ivy?"Another replied, "Because He knows there are some things we should keep our hands off!" Keeping your hands off certain things isn't easy, especially when you're insecure or controlling by nature. "But sometimes my partner drives me crazy." Maybe you drive him/her crazy too! No two people are 100% compatible. God says, " . . . a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh." (Gen 2:24). "Leaving" is easy, but "becoming one" takes a lifetime of sacrifice and hard work!

In John 14:27, Jesus tells us that He has left His peace here with us. In doing so, He gave us the authority to stop allowing ourselves to be unsettled. We've got to learn to "let go" and allow the Spirit of God to develop us more into the likeness of Christ. That's enough to keep anyone busy! Letting go doesn't mean you don't care; it just means that you're willing to let others learn from their consequences. It's a call for you to focus more on Jesus rather than obsessing over the other person. Isaiah 26:3 says, "You will keep him inperfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You . . . " Letting go means caring about instead of care-taking. It means stepping out of the middle and not trying to influence the outcome (i.e. fixing, judging, nagging, scolding, arguing, criticizing and regulating.) It's about facing each day with God's help and cherishing every minute. It's about realizing that the only person you can change IS YOU! And even that has to be done with God's help!
